Who can use this?
Open to the general public. Adoption available to anyone who completes an application. Low-cost spay/neuter services available to income-qualifying pet owners. Pet food pantry and Ani-Meals on Wheels serve community members in need. ARLGP serves 15 communities in Southern Maine.

Founded in 1911 by Maine Governor Percival Baxter, the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland is a no-kill animal shelter caring for more than 4,000 abandoned and displaced animals annually. They moved to their current 25,000-square-foot facility at 217 Landing Road in Westbrook in 2016.

What to expect
Visit the adoption center during open hours to meet available animals and speak with staff. Adoption requires completing an application. For surrendering a pet, appointments are required — call (207) 854-9771.

Photo ID for adoption. Proof of income for low-cost spay/neuter services.
