Who can use this?
Youth ages 10 through 20 who are currently experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. Shaw House is low-barrier and operates as a 24-hour safe haven.
About this resource
Shaw House is operated by Community Care and is the only youth shelter serving northern Maine (Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, Washington, and Aroostook counties). It provides emergency shelter, a daytime safe space, transitional housing, and mobile outreach for young people ages 10-20 who are homeless or at risk.
Services offered
- Emergency overnight shelter (7 PM - 8 AM) with bed, food, shower, laundry, and clothing
- Day program (8 AM - 7 PM) with safe daytime space, meals, and case management
- Mason Place Transitional Living Program (18-month housing for ages 16.5-20)
- Streetlight Outreach mobile team providing basic needs across 5 northern Maine counties
- School enrollment assistance
- Targeted case management and referrals
What to expect
Walk in during operating hours. The emergency shelter is open overnight from 7 PM to 8 AM, and the day program runs 8 AM to 7 PM. You'll be provided immediate access to food, a bed (overnight), showers, and laundry. Staff will work with you on case management, staying in school, and connecting to other services.
