Who this helps
Open to the general public. Adoption visits are open to visitors from any community; adopters must be at least 18 and show photo ID. Fetchin’ Food is for Greater Androscoggin residents and follows participant rules, including age and household limits.
How to get started
Visit during open hours to meet adoptable animals. Staff will help match you with a pet. Fetchin’ Food is open Tuesdays from 9:00-11:00 AM. The pantry is first come, first served; check its posted participation guidelines before visiting. For animal surrender, call (207) 783-2311.
How they can help.
The Society was incorporated as a nonprofit on February 25, 1885. GAHS contracts with 12 municipalities for stray and animal care; owner surrender is scheduled as space allows. Fetchin’ Food offers pet-food assistance to Greater Androscoggin residents; its donated supply varies by week.
- Pet adoption (dogs, cats, and small animals)
- Scheduled stray intake and owner surrender for residents of Auburn, Canton, Greene, Hebron (cats only), Leeds, Lewiston, Livermore, Minot, New Gloucester, Turner, Rumford, and Wales.

- Cat spay/neuter surgery at the shelter: $130 per cat; appointments are limited.
