Getting started.
Who this helps
Kittery residents who cannot meet basic needs may qualify. The Town considers household income and available resources.
How to get started
The administrator usually interviews applicants in private before deciding. The Town gives a written decision within 24 hours of a completed application.
Get the application.
Download the Town of Kittery General Assistance Application from the Town’s Welfare Services page, or pick up a paper copy at the Town Hall Customer Service Center.
Schedule an appointment.
Call 207-630-4314 to apply by appointment at the Mainspring Office, 22 Shapleigh Road.
Complete the application.
Provide household income, resources, assets, and expense information on the written application.
Bring your records.
Take the completed application and supporting documents to your appointment. Provide any other information the administrator requests.
How they can help.
This is a last-resort program. Applicants must use other available programs and resources first. Assistance comes as vouchers, not cash.

A few questions before you go.

For electricity help, bring a CMP disconnect notice. If illness, disability, or another health issue keeps you from working, bring a doctor’s statement.
