Getting started.
Who this helps
People who need help with basic necessities and have used other programs first may qualify under Town rules. Except for first-time applicants, applicants must document how they used their income.
How to get started
If approved, help is issued as a voucher. The Town does not provide cash.
Get an application.
Pick up or drop off a General Assistance application at the Town Office during regular business hours.
Schedule a visit.
Call (207) 236-0806 to schedule an appointment. Clients are seen by appointment only.
Get after-hours help.
For after-hours or weekend emergencies, call the Knox County Sheriff's Department at 594-5656.
How they can help.
The Town's program helps with necessities and is not intended to meet all of a person's needs. Approved help is issued as vouchers, not cash.

A few questions before you go.
If you are not a first-time applicant, bring current receipts showing how much income you received and how you spent it. The administrator may ask for more information.
- Can the program cover the cost I need help with?
- What income records should I bring?
- What happens after I submit my application?
- What should I do if I need help on a weekend?
