Getting started.
Who this helps
School-age children who live in RSU 22 may qualify for special education if they have a disability and need special education services. In most cases, Section 504 applies when a physical or mental impairment substantially limits a major life activity.
How to get started
After the evaluation, the IEP team reviews the results with the family and decides whether the child qualifies. If special education is needed, the team develops an IEP and reports progress to parents. A student who does not need special education may qualify for Section 504 accommodations.
Call the Special Services office.
Call (207) 862-2774 and ask for Christina Babin, the Director of Special Services, or Pamela Fox, the Assistant Director. You can also contact your child's school principal.
Ask about an evaluation.
Describe your concerns about your child's school performance and ask for an evaluation.
Join the IEP meeting.
Take part in the IEP team discussion and share what you know about your child's needs.
Give written consent.
If the team agrees your child may have a disability, give written consent before the evaluation begins.
