Getting started.
Who this helps
WIC serves eligible Maine residents during pregnancy and after birth, infants, and children younger than five. Parents and guardians can apply for children in their care. MaineCare, SNAP or TANF can establish income eligibility; WIC still checks the other program requirements.
How to get started
Find the office serving your county and call to arrange an appointment. Staff review identification, residency, income and nutrition eligibility. If you need help finding an office, call 1-800-437-9300 in Maine or (207) 287-3991.
Find the office for your county.
Use Maine WIC’s local office directory to choose the agency serving your area.
Arrange an appointment.
Call the local office. Ask where your appointment will take place and how to get communication or accessibility support.
Prepare the requested information.
Check the official document list with your clinic. Receiving another benefit can support income eligibility, but WIC must complete its own assessment.
In Hancock or Washington County?
Maine Family Planning’s WIC offices serve both counties. Call Ellsworth at (207) 667-5304 or Machias at (207) 255-8280 for screening and an appointment.
How they can help.
Maine WIC provides supplemental food benefits, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and referrals through local agencies. A local clinic helps you understand eligibility and arrange an appointment.

A few questions before you go.
Prepare identification, proof of where you live, and income or qualifying-benefit information. Ask your clinic which documents apply to you and your child. WIC’s official application guidance includes an appointment checklist.

- What documents should I bring for myself or my child?
- How can I get help with language or accessibility needs?
