How they can help.
Amistad has been a cornerstone of Portland's peer support community since 1982. It is Maine's largest peer-run organization, providing a safe, welcoming space for adults experiencing mental health challenges, substance use disorders, homelessness, and other life difficulties. The center operates as a drop-in model where people can access peer support, hot meals, basic needs (showers, laundry, lockers, mail service), groups, and recovery-focused programming.
- Peer support from people with lived experience
- Free meals during open hours
- Showers, laundry, and locker access
- Mail service for those without a fixed address
