How to get started
Call 1-800-542-8227 to schedule a fuel assistance appointment. You'll meet with a caseworker who reviews your documents and determines your benefit amount. Payment goes directly to your fuel vendor. Eligible applicants receive a home energy assessment; work depends on the home’s needs and available funding.

Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP) is the Community Action Agency serving Kennebec and Somerset counties. They administer LIHEAP fuel assistance, weatherization, transportation, Head Start, and other anti-poverty programs. KVCAP has served the region since 1965.
- LIHEAP fuel assistance: seasonal payment to your heating fuel vendor
- Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP): emergency funds November through April
- Weatherization Assistance Program: insulation, air sealing, and heating upgrades at no cost
- Central Heating Improvement Program (CHIP): furnace/boiler repair or replacement
- Home energy assessment for weatherization applicants.
