Getting started.

Who this helps

Bangor residents who lack the income or resources to meet basic needs may qualify. Applicants must seek other available resources, and the city reviews household records to decide eligibility.

How to get started

The caseworker completes your household application by phone. If records are missing, the city may be unable to approve your request and may need a follow-up appointment. Approved vouchers can be picked up at Public Health.

  1. Request a phone appointment.

Call (207) 992-4528 to schedule a telephone appointment. If you have an urgent General Assistance emergency and no upcoming appointment, call the same number for a phone interview as soon as possible.

  2. Send requested documents.

Before the appointment, use the “Upload Requested Documents” link on the Bangor Public Health General Assistance page, email documents to [email protected], or bring them to the Public Health office.

  3. Join the scheduled call.

Have all adults in your household present. A caseworker will call at the appointment time to complete an application for your household.

How they can help.

Bangor Public Health runs the city's General Assistance program. Applicants complete a phone appointment. The office accepts paperwork and lets people pick up approved vouchers.

A few questions before you go.

Have photo identification, proof of money available to your household in the last 30 days, proof of current expenses, and your landlord's name ready. Repeat applicants must also provide receipts for all purchases.
