Getting started.
Who this helps
Households in Bethel, Greenwood, Woodstock, Hanover, Andover, Newry, Gilead, Albany Township, or Upton may apply if they use wood heat and have trouble getting enough firewood. Limited exceptions may be considered.
How to get started
The wood bank reviews your request and contacts you about approval, a need for more information, a waitlist, or a referral. Approved households may receive up to one cord during the heating season. Pickup is standard; limited delivery may be considered if you cannot reasonably pick up the wood.
Check the service area.
Make sure your household is in a town the wood bank serves. Limited exceptions may be considered.
Complete the application.
Open the current Firewood Heat Assistance application from Bethel Wood Bank on the Town of Bethel's Community Information page. Fill it out and email it to Bethel Wood Bank at [email protected].
Wait for a response.
The wood bank will tell you if help is approved, more information is needed, or you are waitlisted or referred to another resource.
Pick up your wood.
Pickup at the wood yard is standard. If you cannot reasonably pick it up, explain why in your application. Limited delivery may be considered but is not guaranteed.

A few questions before you go.
Be ready to describe your household, how you heat your home, your current firewood supply, and what makes it hard to get enough wood.
- Can I apply if I live outside the service area?
- Could my household get help more than once?
- What if wood heat is not my home's main heat source?
- Could delivery be possible if pickup is difficult?
