Maine's five Area Agencies on Aging are the backbone of senior services across the state. Whether you need help paying for heating, getting meals delivered, understanding your Medicare options, or finding support as a caregiver, your local AAA is the place to start. Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA)
The designated Area Agency on Aging for Cumberland and York counties. Provides Meals on Wheels, Medicare counseling, adult day programs, caregiver support, and connections to community services for older adults.
SeniorsPlus
The designated Area Agency on Aging for Western Maine since 1972. Serves Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties with nutrition programs, care coordination, Medicare counseling, and community services for older adults and adults with disabilities.
Eastern Area Agency on Aging
The designated Area Agency on Aging for Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Washington counties. Provides Meals on Wheels, Medicare counseling, information and assistance, and community programs for older adults in eastern Maine.
Spectrum Generations
The designated Area Agency on Aging for central Maine, serving Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, Somerset, Waldo counties and parts of Cumberland. Provides Meals on Wheels, Medicare counseling, adult day services, and community programs.
Aroostook Area Agency on Aging
The designated Area Agency on Aging for Aroostook County. Provides Meals on Wheels, Medicare counseling, adult day services, transportation, and community programs for older adults in northern Maine.
Maine Department of Health and Human Services
Maine's State Health Insurance Assistance Program provides free, confidential Medicare counseling through trained volunteers statewide. Counselors help with Medicare enrollment, plan comparisons, billing issues, and appeals. They do not sell insurance.

Maine's 24-hour toll-free hotline for reporting suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of incapacitated or dependent adults. Calls can be made anonymously. For emergencies, call 911.
Alzheimer's Association
The Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association provides free support, education, and resources for people living with Alzheimer's and other dementias and their caregivers. A 24/7 Helpline (800-272-3900) offers round-the-clock assistance in over 200 languages.
Legal Services for Maine Elders
Provides free legal advice and representation to Mainers age 60 and older on issues including Medicare, MaineCare, Social Security, elder abuse, housing, consumer protection, and powers of attorney.
Maine Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program
A free, confidential advocacy program for residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and recipients of home care and adult day services in Maine. Investigates complaints and works to resolve problems.
Maine Revenue Services
Maine offers several property tax relief programs for seniors including the Property Tax Fairness Credit (up to $2,500 for age 65+), Homestead Exemption ($25,000 off assessed value), and the Property Tax Deferral Program for seniors age 65+.
